🐾 Matcha Update from the Vet 🐾

We have an update on little Matcha—and while it’s a tough one, it’s also the start of his healing journey.

First, we can officially confirm that Matcha is a boy. 💙
He was seen by Dr. Martin today, and after a full exam, our fears were unfortunately confirmed.

Matcha’s leg is degloved, with the wound extending down to the bone and severely infected. Dr. Martin told us that this injury would have caused incredible pain, especially for such a tiny baby. There is no option to save the leg, and the decision has been made to amputate—just as we suspected.

That means we’ll soon have another adorable little tripawd in the Max Raven family. 🐾
If Matcha’s body can tolerate it, the plan is to neuter him during the same procedure, but that decision will be made with his safety as the top priority.

In the photos shared, Matcha is lightly sedated, allowing the techs to hold him, comfort him, and give him the love he so clearly deserves.

💔 It’s heartbreaking to imagine the pain he’s endured for at least two weeks as a tiny baby.
💛 It’s also a miracle that Linda and Mike were watching closely, didn’t give up, and got him trapped and safely to us so he could finally get help.

To get Matcha healed, healthy, and pain-free, we need to reach our $2,000 goal to cover surgery, treatment, and recovery.

Linda and Mike have been tirelessly managing a colony of community cats here in Lincoln. They had nearly reached full containment—cats fixed, vaccinated, and monitored—when a few weeks ago their trail cam picked up something new: a mama cat and two kittens they hadn’t seen before. Or so they thought.

Then they spotted a third baby.

This little one appeared to be shunned by mom and siblings, staying separate, and was later named Sticky Matcha. Linda and Mike were able to trap the other two kittens—Boba and Mochi—who are now safely in our care with Diana, working on socialization. Those two babies (one male, one female) have since been fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and did test FIV+. While scary to hear, FIV is not a death sentence, and they are making progress every single day. Diana is showing them that humans can be trusted—hissing and spitting still happen, but improvements do too. This isn’t her first rodeo; she’s successfully tamed multiple kittens for us, and CHS, before, and we have full confidence in her.

But tonight changed everything.

Linda and Mike finally caught the third kitten—Sticky Matcha.

And our hearts dropped.

Matcha has a severe injury to his leg. From what we can see, it appears he may have gotten into some type of construction adhesive—straw and debris are stuck to his leg, and it looks like he has been living with this painful injury for at least two weeks. Tomorrow, Matcha will be seen by Ehlers Animal Care, but based on what we’re seeing, amputation is very likely.

We will know more after his vet visit—but we need to prepare.

This baby is in pain, and we are asking for help.

If amputation is required, it will be costly, and we are calling on Max Raven Nation to help us do what we do best—save lives.
