This little fuzzy face belongs to Luna. Luna is a 2 year old mix of maybe lab and husky. She lives in a rural community in interior Alaska. She is now part of a family of 5 dogs. Luna was taken in by someone in the community after her previous person decided they didn't want her anymore and just stopped taking care of her. Luna was left to fend for herself as a stray until this kind hearted family took her in.

This family already had 3 dogs and actually took in Luna and 1 other stray that both need houses. Luna is our first sponsorship girl, we will post the other dog named Dallas next.

As you can see Luna has a small house, but it looks pretty rough and there is no straw for insulation/comfort. We would love to send Luna an insulated dog house and a bale of straw to upgrade her living arrangements.

Luna's new family is open to the possibility of trying some kind of indoor space for her as well. They have 3 indoor dogs already and like the idea of having dogs inside (at least sometimes). We will work with them to see how much room they have and what would be the best inside resource to try.

These houses are double walled with 1.5 inch insulation in the walls and roof, 3 inch insulation in the floor, they are weather coated and the roof is made of T1-11. (They weigh about 170 lbs./200 lbs. with the bale of straw).

Hopefully Luna has found her forever family and a new house and straw will give her some much needed comfort.

While we at Straw For Dogs are not of the mindset that dogs should live outside in the cold away from their families, the reality is that many do.

We provide insulated dog houses and straw to dogs living outside in the harsh Alaskan climate. Even with a dog house and straw these living conditions are far from ideal. However, sending these resources are the most immediate action we can take to provide a little comfort to dogs who are suffering in the elements.

We continue to encourage people to bring their dogs inside (at least periodically for love and socialization), walk them, and play with them. We offer supplies to help with this as well.
