Culture Keeper Mutual Aid Fund
The cultural sector is essential to our national identity, yet cultural workers—artists, scholars, educators, and museum professionals—are often undervalued and underfunded. In May 2025, the federal government significantly cut funding to the NEH, NEA, and IMLS, putting critical programs and countless cultural jobs at risk.
In response, Higher Ground Society launched the Culture Keeper Mutual Aid Network—a grassroots effort to support cultural workers through collective care and financial relief. Inspired by mutual aid traditions, this initiative ensures that those who enrich our communities through the arts and humanities are not left behind during times of uncertainty.
At the heart of the Network is the Culture Keeper Mutual Aid Fund, which provides direct aid to cultural workers facing economic hardship. Participation is simple:
-
Keepers are individuals working in the cultural sector. They can contribute to the Fund and are eligible to request aid.
-
Friends are supporters from outside the sector who contribute to help sustain Keepers but are not eligible to receive aid.
Whether you’re able to give once or regularly, your support helps build a stronger, more resilient cultural community.
Join us in honoring the work of cultural workers and ensuring they can continue shaping our shared future.
