We are thrilled to introduce our initiative to support mothers in Colombia through providing meals and group therapy sessions. Our nonprofit organization is dedicated to empowering women, one of the most vulnerable populations in Colombia, and we believe that providing essential support to mothers is key to addressing poverty and creating further opportunites for education and employment. On Mother's Day, we will specifically prioritize working with single mothers.

🙏 The Problem: We are addressing the cycle: In Latin America, women are five times more likely to be left out of the labor force. In Colombia specifically, where 85% of children are born into single parent homes, this creates a cycle of violence against women, who are then forced into sex work or a state of dependency. Mothers face some of the most severe challenges, from economic hardship to social isolation and mental health concerns. As a result, women in Colombia are struggling at an increasingly disproportionate rate to access the support they need to provide for themselves and their children. That's why we need your help.

💖 Our Vision: Our initiative will provide hot meals and group therapy sessions to mothers in need, offering them a nutritious meal and a safe space to connect with our excellent team of local female psychologists. By addressing both the physical and emotional needs of mothers, we aim to empower women, enrich the community, and educate mothers.

WHO ARE WE?

The Ella Initiative is a women's foundation based in the United States. Medellín is our pilot city where, in our first three months of operations, we have empowered 90 people through our Virtual English Program, and we have worked with five female small business owners to grow their brand, with plans to work with 100 young businesswomen annually. We work to empower vulnerable women in the three critical developmental stages: women in poverty, violence against women (which leads to lack of education, unemployment, and sex work), and finally, females who want to grow professionally.

The Comuna Project is a development foundation based in Medellín, Colombia. For the past seven years, they have served the population of Comuna 13 and the greater Medellín area through grassroots educational, professional, and psychological services. On Mother's Day, with the help of Comuna Project's incredible team of female psychologists who already work with vulnerable women, we will be able to identify and serve the women in the community who need our support the most.

Capsi is a female-owned mental health non-profit organization that has operated in Comuna 13, Medellín, for several years. They work with mothers and families to ensure that they receive the individualized mental health support that they need. With the help of Capsi's incredible team of female psychologists, this Mother's Day initiative will be entirely grassroots and female-led.

Mangata is a female-owned fashion brand based out of Comuna 13, Medellín, Colombia, the community we will be focusing our Mother's Day outreach in. They work to empower women through their clothing meant for all body types, and through their community work in increasing access to psychological support for women. On Mother's Day, Mangata will provide an excellent team of local, trained psychologists to help serve the women of Medellín.
