Story

Welcome to the annual fundraiser & membership drive for the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society! SMPS is committed to providing live, local, musical experiences for all people and all ages.  Donations and memberships pay musician and staff salaries, cover concert expenses, and support music education events for children and youth in our community.  By donating today, you make it possible for the Phil to keep playing on as we return to concerts in the coming year – with your help, we will Listen – Local – Live once more!

Enjoy Maestro Nowak and the Santa Maria Philharmonic performing the beloved children’s classic, Peter and the Wolf. This work, a "symphonic fairy tale for children", was written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936. Our narrator, Kitty Balay, of PCPA fame, tells the story, while the orchestra illustrates with character “themes” for each character. Artwork from students at Ontiveros Elementary makes it even more fun!

Peter and the Wolf is Prokofiev's most frequently performed work, as well as one of the most frequently performed works in the entire classical repertoire. Children of all ages will enjoy this wonderful performance!
