The Dancemakers Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to fostering creativity, education, and accessibility within Atlanta's dance community through supporting the efforts and mission of Dancemakers of Atlanta. Through collaborative partnerships and innovative programs, we empower dancers of all backgrounds to thrive.
DMF was established in to expand the reach and impact of the long-standing work of Dancemakers of Atlanta, a premier dance education institution serving the Atlanta metropolitan area for over two decades. Dancemakers of Atlanta has offered core training to students ages 3–18, helping young dancers build technical skill, artistic expression, and confidence. Its founders and directors, Denise Heard-Latimer and Lynise Heard, have guided the studio’s growth from a small local program to an influential educational hub that cultivates artistry, leadership, and lifelong engagement with dance.
While Dancemakers of Atlanta focuses on day-to-day instruction and artistic programming, DMF was created as the organization’s philanthropic arm to secure the long-term sustainability and broaden the accessibility of that mission. As a 501(c)(3), DMF makes it possible for donors, sponsors, and grant funders to invest in a wide range of opportunities that strengthen the entire dance community—ranging from scholarships for underserved students, to professional development for teachers, enrichment opportunities for all dancers, strategic operational support, and a visionary building fund for a permanent dance home.
