Friday Night Polo: Illuminating Tradition & Community Since 1937

Under the glow of historic lights, a unique tradition continues every Friday night in our small Western Pennsylvania town. Welcome to Darlington Polo Club—the world's first lighted polo field—where, for over eight decades, the thundering hooves of polo ponies have echoed across our field, bringing together generations of families, polo enthusiasts, and community members.

Where Tradition Meets Purpose

Since 1937, Darlington Polo Club has been more than just a venue for an elegant sport. As you turn off Constitution Boulevard onto the winding back roads leading to our small community of fewer than 250 residents, the rusty welcome sign proudly announces: "Darlington home of... Darlington Polo Club & Lions Club International." This sign represents not just our history, but our enduring partnership with purpose.

In 1947, just ten years after our founding, the Little Beaver Lions Club began what would become a 77-season tradition (with only the 2020 COVID season as an interruption): serving refreshments during polo matches as their inaugural fundraising activity. What started as a simple concession stand has grown into a cornerstone of community support, complete with a second-floor announcer's booth and an accompanying pavilion that hosts graduation parties, fishing derbies, and even weddings!

The Famous Fries That Fund Community Service

Ask any local about Darlington Polo, and they'll likely mention the Lions Club's legendary French fries. These aren't just any fries—they're a tradition passed down through generations, served with hometown pride and classic Heinz ketchup. Children who once begged their parents for money to buy these fries now watch their own children experience the same simple joy.

But these delicious fries serve a greater purpose. Every purchase supports the Little Beaver Lions Club's impressive community initiatives:

Building residential wheelchair ramps for those in need
Supporting and manning the Darlington Food Bank
Providing eyeglasses and hearing aids to community members
Supporting the local fire department
Providing financial aid to fire and flood victims
Supporting the PA Beacon Lodge Camp for the Blind
