"I had the privilege to work with Jimmy for over 22 years. He was a patrolman when I started at the Maplewood Police Department. I observed and followed his blueprint of success up the ranks. I witnessed him evolve as an officer as the community's needs changed. Chief DeVaul embraced working with various community groups and being transparent with information. He accepted the recommendations to start the Community Engagement Unit within the police department and supported the newly created Community Board on Police. The department became more reflective of the community under his leadership, hiring more women and minority officers. Selfishly, I miss our Monday morning conversations about our favorite sport, football. We would talk about the highlights from the night before, and he spoke of his favorite player, Tom Brady. I found the Chief to be a man of integrity and fairness. He is missed by myself and the rank and file of the department."
- Albert Sally, Maplewood Chief of Police
"Chief DeVaul was always available to serve the residents of our town . He was of enormous help to me when YouthNet was getting started and later during the Moussa Fofana reward campaign - a true son of Maplewood."
- Fred Profeta, Former Mayor of Maplewood
"Chief DeVaul was the essence of service. A dedicated soul to every person in our community and to every moment of the day. His efforts led to many accomplishments which benefited all of us, including a stronger relationship between the community which he grew up and the department which he led. Thank you for your sacrifice, your passion, and love, dear friend."
- Frank McGehee, Former Mayor of Maplewood
