The SMART Story...

Sacramento Advocates for Rail and Transit fills a glaring gap in the collection of transportation advocacy organizations in the Sacramento region. Many have recognized this need to organize the broad array of transit stakeholders. Organized transit stakeholders are vital to presenting the benefits of transit to our larger community and demanding investment levels from local elected officials that hold the purse strings.

Since June 2019, SMART has gathered over 200 mass transit and rail stakeholders in our community including business, civic leaders, community organizations, labor, elected officials, and individuals. We are here to advocate and educate for the benefits of public mass transit and rail benefits. The initiatives and proposals to expand and modernize our transit and rail in the Sacramento Region will fall short without the new levels of investment we call for. transit is the only mode that has the scale, technology and efficiency to move the most people at one time, increase the efficiency of our road system, save households money, and keep our air breathable and our climate safe.
