UPDATE -2/2/26

Thanks to you all - the funds that were raised continue to support their family's household expenses while they get through this rough patch. Their daughter, Alexus has been in the hospital since December 13th, 2024. The family has been on a limited income due to the inconsistency of dad's work sites. 100% of all funds that have been raised continue to go to their house's needs as they are struggling financially. We will continue to leave this link open in case anyone would like to continue to support and help their family during this time. Any additional funds raised will go to the upkeep of their home and/or any financial emergencies. We want more than anything, to help get this family back on their feet as they have experienced tragedy after tragedy.

In the nick of time — thanks to your incredible support and contributions — a local lawyer was able to stop the sheriff’s sale just hours before the auction. Because of you, we’ve raised approximately $26,000, which allows our nonprofit to cover the family’s mortgage and essential bills while they work on getting back on their feet.

From here forward, 100% of any ongoing donations to this link will go directly toward fixing and restoring their home.

In the heart of Franklinville lives a family fighting battles most of us can’t even imagine. The Dick family —Rebecca and Huck, along with their three children, Alexus, Zane, and Ava —have faced more hardships in the past few years than anyone should have to endure in a lifetime.

Alexus, now 24, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at just two years old. Thirteen years later, her younger brother Zane received the same heartbreaking diagnosis. Despite the daily challenges of their degenerative disease, Alexus has always been a bright light in the community—her bubbly personality and dedication to raising money for the SMA Foundation have touched so many lives.

Rebecca, their mother, has been their full-time caregiver, ensuring Alexus and Zane have everything they need. But caring for two children with SMA is a full-time job, leaving the family dependent on a single income from Huck, a proud Marine veteran and hardworking union worker. Because of his job, they receive no disability benefits —even though the medical equipment Zane and Alexus rely on runs 24/7, racking up overwhelming electric bills each month.

Huck has always done everything he could to provide, but his own serious heart problems have made things even more difficult. The family was already struggling when disaster after disaster struck. First, their medical supply shed caught fire, destroying thousands of dollars’ worth of essential equipment. Then, their hot water heater caught fire, and their basement flooded. Their home’s outdated electrical system means they can’t even run a washer and dryer, forcing them to haul laundry back and forth to a laundromat. Worst of all, they live without central heat or air conditioning—conditions no family, especially one with serious medical needs, should have to endure.

And now, they are about to lose everything.

The family’s home has been in foreclosure and is now up for sheriff's sale on July 9th. The place where they have built their lives, fought their battles, and shared their happiest moments is about to be taken from them. They owe roughly $25,000 - which this campaign is set for - but with any additional payments they might endure, and the fees of withdrawing the funds we have set it for $35,000.

But there is hope—and that hope is you.
