About Brooklyn Music School...

To make it possible for everyone, regardless of their background and resources, to be able to experience the joy of music and the artistic and intellectual benefits of musical performance.

Brooklyn Music School views music and performance as the birthright of all people—an essential way human beings connect and explore their creativity.

Brooklyn Music School is a community school for the performing arts, founded in 1909 as the Brooklyn Music School Settlement. The school was founded by immigrants for whom music performance and appreciation were an essential part of life, and who wished to spread music and performance to a broader audience of new Americans.

Today, we own and operate a historic four-story building in the Fort Greene neighborhood that contains twenty-four classrooms, three dance studios, and a professional 266-seat Spanish-style theatre. Our organization continues to stay true to our heritage of building communities through the joy and appreciation of music and the performing arts.
