Our Stories of Us
Because of you, these stories were possible. For more than 35 years, The Bright Side Family has stood as a source of care, dignity, and community for older adults when there was nowhere else to turn. What started in 1990 — when our founders saw a desperate need for truly affordable supportive housing — became a mission that has touched thousands of lives across Bergen County and beyond. We believe a safe, comfortable home and the opportunity to age with choice should be a right — not a privilege.
Today, we provide affordable housing, affordable assisted living, and a range of support services that help older adults thrive — not just survive — in the place they call home.
Stories of Us — Real Lives Changed
Ruth (Bright Side Manor): She feared assisted living would take away her independence. Instead, she found peace of mind — and people who know her by name, not just her needs.
Linda (Senior Checks): Bills piled up. Scams reached her inbox. She felt overwhelmed — until Senior Checks, our free money management program, helped her with bill paying, budgeting, mail management, online banking guidance, and scam protection. Now she sleeps easier, knowing her finances aren’t a burden — they’re balanced.
Michael (PALS): He wanted to stay in his own home. Through Portable Assisted Living Services, support — from personal care to medication assistance — comes right where he lives, so he never lost his routine or his dignity.
Sam (Independent Living): After housing uncertainty, an affordable home meant stability — and with it, dignity and peace.
Alicia (Age-Friendly Teaneck): She wanted to stay active in her town. Through community initiatives designed to make Teaneck livable for all ages, she feels seen, connected, and valued.
Irene (82): “I thought assisted living meant giving up.” Through PALS, help arrives at her door. “Someone who cares is just a knock away.”
