Why Donate?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly 1/5 of adults in the US live with a mental illness, yet we still talk about mental illness in hushed voices behind closed doors. We still view people with mental illness as villains and the reasons for our nation's problems. We still say things like, "they were just looking for attention." We still view people with mental illnesses as lazy and needy as opposed to people who are disabled and deserving of equitable accommodations.

This is a problem. The stigma around mental health must be put to an end. That is exactly what A Different Mind is working to do.

With your help, A Different Mind can educate the public, demystify mental illness, provide paid opportunities for peer artists, and platform accurate depictions of mental health conditions/ experiences. All this work helps those unfamiliar with the realities of living with a mental illness begin to see the humanity behind statistics. Just as importantly, it allows those who know the realities all too well to feel seen in their struggles. Donating allows you to play a direct role in touching people’s lives.

About the Genesis Circle

Genesis is a term for the origin of something, whether it's "neurogenesis"- the process in which new brain neurons are created- or it's the origin of an awesome, new organization like ours. Through a monetary contribution, you can be a part of A Different Mind’s origin story.

Everyone who contributes before A Different Mind receives our 501(c)(3) status (which differs from state nonprofit status) will be an official member of A Different Mind’s Genesis Circle. Making a contribution will give you the opportunity to have your name as a permanent fixture on our website under our “Genesis Circle- Founding Donors” list (but don’t worry, if you’d like to remain anonymous, that’s an option too!). As an additional thank-you, donors will receive a complimentary sticker and a handwritten thank-you note from our founder.

Other Important Information

A Different Mind, Inc.’s application for recognition of exemption under Section 501(c)(3) is pending. Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions unless and until exemption is granted; if granted, they may be deductible retroactive to the date of formation. Consult your tax advisor.
