My name is Dorothy Amuah, and I am the Founder of Dorothy’s Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients, promoting prevention and early detection, and improving access to breast cancer education and care.

As a breast cancer survivor, this fight is deeply personal to me. Breast cancer is not simply a cause I support—it is a reality I have lived, and one I hope no woman ever has to face alone. Dorothy’s Hope Foundation was born out of compassion, resilience, and a determination to prevent, care for, and support women affected by breast cancer.

Our mission is to educate women, promote early detection, and empower patients and survivors through every stage of their journey.

We believe strongly in the power of prevention and early detection. Early screening saves lives, which is why our Foundation prioritizes free breast cancer screenings, community education, awareness campaigns, and outreach to women who may otherwise have limited access to these services.

Since 2014, Dorothy’s Hope Foundation has conducted annual nationwide outreach programs across Ghana, providing free screenings, breast cancer awareness, health education, and support aimed at reducing preventable breast cancer deaths.

Our work has reached communities in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, the Volta Region, and many other parts of Ghana. Through these efforts, we have touched and improved the lives of countless women, while continuing to build a strong network of cancer patients and survivors.

Last year, we successfully screened approximately 3,000 women through our mobile breast cancer screening facilities created in collaboration with multiple medical institutions. We are supporting the treatment of several women at various stages of breast cancer, each facing different—and often extremely costly—treatment needs.

While our Foundation continues to do everything within its means, financial limitations prevent us from helping many more women who urgently need care.

Growing Beyond Borders

After more than a decade of impact in Ghana, Dorothy’s Hope Foundation is entering an important new chapter. We are now registered in the United States, expanding our mission beyond Ghana and Africa and building a truly international platform for breast cancer awareness, education, advocacy, early detection, and patient support.

Our vision is to build bridges between Africa and the United States, creating opportunities for shared knowledge, medical partnerships, survivor networks, advocacy, fundraising, and community-based breast cancer initiatives.

As we establish our presence in the United States, we intend to work alongside communities, healthcare professionals, survivors, advocates, organizations, and partners to raise awareness and support women affected by breast cancer in the U.S., while continuing—and ultimately expanding—our life-saving work throughout Ghana and across Africa.

This growth does not change where our story began. It strengthens our ability to take that mission further.
