ChristAid Board member Dr. Kathy Hassell has a HUGE heart for Grandmas for Jesus! In addition to personally sponsoring many Grandmas, Kathy makes it a priority to travel to Uganda at least once a year to provide medical care and ministry to our most vulnerable and fragile Grandmas.

In ChristAid's Grandmas for Jesus ministry in Uganda, part of each sponsorship donation includes some health care for each Grandma. The Grandmas receive this care in Fort Portal at MK Hospital with our partner Dr. Moses, who is ChristAid Country Director Grace's husband. This includes free visits to the clinic and some basic medications for conditions like diabetes and hypertension. However, over 50 of the 180 sponsored Grandmas are too weak to travel regularly to the clinic and only make it to the hospital when they become desperately ill.

Our board member Dr. Kathy has a big heart for Grandmas and for adventure, so she loves to rumble around the Ugandan bush in the hospital's ambulance accompanying Dr. Moses and some of his staff, visiting Grandmas who can't come out. The Grandmas so appreciate the check-up, encouragement, and prayer brought to their homes by this outreach. This care helps to prevent suffering and more serious complications, too.

These Grandmas are physically frail and often deal with chronic medical conditions, like diabetes, high blood pressure, digestive problems, and heart disease. Some are not able to stand, or even leave their beds. There is no 911 in Uganda and no regular ambulance service in "the bush." While these Grandmas are too ill to travel to ChristAid for care, they are not forgotten: They are not forgotten by God, they are not forgotten by ChristAid, and they are not forgotten by Dr. Kathy.
