The Design Science Studio (DSS) is a launchpad, regenerative cultural incubator, educational hub and commUnity for global innovators, artists and designers, where they come together to explore and apply creative solutions for society’s most pressing social and environmental challenges. DSS catalyzes change by combining a interdisciplinary curriculum across art, design, science, technology, and systems thinking, with capacity-building practices rooted in social justice, environmental sustainability, and community empowerment.

DSS-the-ask

We're on a quest to raise $65,000, and no contribution is too small. With just $2,800, you can sponsor one artist for our program. We believe in our community to help. If 650 people donated $100, we would reach this goal together.

But why $65,000?? This year, during registration, $65,000 of committed support for the scholars was deferred just two days before launching the program. Due to these last-minute changes from these patrons, we have a $65,000 gap that we need to fill to complete the program and support these creators effectively.

Additionally, the Design Science Studio had to take a year off last year because five of the core team members experienced life-threatening injuries and/or health conditions. Restarting such a large initiative this year requires a tremendous amount of effort and care, which is currently underway.

We've come this far, but we need your support to enable more creatives and designers to drive change. By contributing to The Diversity and Equity Scholarship Access Fund, you directly support artists from underrepresented backgrounds, giving them equal opportunities to participate and thrive in the DSS cohort.

The Design Science Studio is a bootstrapped labor of care by a team of interdisciplinary and regenerative artists working at the intersection of art, science, education, regeneration and experience. It was co-founded in 2020 by Roxi Shohadaee, Amanda Joy Ravenhill, Faith Flanigan, and Nicolás Alcalá through a partnership between habRitual and the Buckminster Fuller Institute; building on the ideas and legacy of Buckminster Fuller and in support of the Regenerative Paradigm Shift. Within DSS, artists receive support to create projects across various mediums that envision a regenerative, equitable future, spanning visual art, written stories, immersive experiences and much more. Our collective vision is to empower and build capacity in artists and designers through the DSS. We believe in building a regenerative future together. Join us in shaping a world that works for all.
