Bambi Needs Our Help!

At Fido's Landing we do our very best to give second chances to as many dogs as we can. As many of you already know it takes a village to rescue these sweet souls! We have partnered with many wonderful organizations to save dogs from both in Illinois and all over the United States.

Thanks to one of our wonderful partners, Operation Dog Tag, a litter of five shepherd mix puppies was saved from a high-kill shelter in Alabama. Fido’s Landing partnered with them to take in two of these pups – Bella and Bambi.

We are thrilled to share that Bella has found her forever home with a wonderful family in Georgia.

However, sweet Bambi still needs us.

Bambi has been having serious issues with her back left leg. What started as a slight limp has now progressed to her not being able to use her leg at all. We acted immediately and got her into the vet. X-rays showed no breaks, so she was referred to an orthopedic specialist.

The specialist found atrophy of her leg muscles, but they are unsure of the exact cause. Their best guess is that it may have been caused by a protozoan parasite infection, though typically such infections impact both hind legs – not just one like Bambi’s.

Bambi is in urgent need of physical therapy to have any chance at regaining function in her leg. If therapy is unsuccessful, amputation may be her only option. She needs to begin treatment as soon as possible to give her the best chance of saving her leg or adapting to life without it.

Our medical funds at Fido’s Landing are drastically low, and we cannot do this without your support.
