Gene Royal, a Chicano born a raised in the Mission District, worked in Headstart, RAP, helped found Centro de Cambio and initiated programs as chairman of the MCO Health Committee. He was Program Coordinator for Community Mental Health at MMHC and a graduate psychology student and later teacher in La Raza Studies at SFSU. He was a strong community activist and active supporter of many causes such as Cesar Chavez Day.
Gene's family has initiated a LATA Scholarship in his Honor.
