Reuben is a 2½-year-old intact male who spent his life until seen as just a breeder. From the very beginning, that was his main purpose.

As a piglet, Reuben was attacked by a dog, leaving his ears severely damaged. Over time, his ears developed huge masses and continued to grow untreated until he was completely blind. Because his “purpose” was breeding, he was no longer useful to his owners.

When Reuben was listed for free on a livestock page; we knew how that story could end. We immediately reached out and were able to secure safe foster placement for him at Pigsburgh Squealers Rescue.

We were told he was blind and deaf, but photos didn’t come close to showing just how severe his condition truly was. Upon arrival, Blue quickly got him evaluated, sending photos and videos to a local vet. A plan was made right away to restore Reuben’s vision, improve his hearing, and finally give him the life he has always deserved.

Reuben will never be used for breeding again. From here on out, he will be a beloved pet—safe, cared for, and truly loved.

His first surgery was complex, but it went well. A vet team successfully removed his left ear, which weighed an astonishing 4.5 pounds. Reuben can now see a little and is so much happier! He is now healing and preparing for his second surgery in late May to remove the remaining mass as well as finally neuter him.

Reuben has been through unimaginable hardship, yet he remains gentle and trusting.

He deserves this chance.

He deserves comfort.

He deserves a real life.
