Introduction

Our journey with BIOM® began in 2019, fueled by a vision to revolutionize housing with fully self-sustaining, off-grid homes that set new standards in resilience, sustainability, and intelligent living. We secured 20 acres of pristine land in the backyard of the Kennedy Space Center, in Florida, strategically located next to SpaceX and Blue Origin, and began laying the groundwork for a home that embodies the future of living—combining cutting-edge technology, luxurious comfort, and eco-conscious design.

We’ve invested well over $500,000 to date, putting our hearts, resources, and expertise into making this vision a reality. Then, COVID-19 struck. Like so many others, our progress was stalled. The pandemic brought the world to a standstill, and our project was no exception. One of our key team members even faced serious health challenges, causing further delays. It was a time of uncertainty and hardship for everyone, and our dreams seemed distant.

Yet, we did not give up. For three long years, we pushed forward, navigating the challenges of a disrupted industry, material shortages, and relentless delays. Our commitment to the vision never wavered. We knew that the world needed sustainable, resilient housing now more than ever. Our dedication, perseverance, and belief in the transformative power of BIOM homes kept us going, and today, we are closer than ever to making this dream a reality.

Our Design / Engineering Challenges

Creating BIOM homes required overcoming numerous engineering challenges:

Water Purification System: We designed a custom rain water harvesting system capable of purifying, treating, storing, and directing water to the house, ensuring sustainable water use.
Waste Treatment System: Integrated a new waste system technology that treats all waste from the home to a quality that can be reused, recycled, and safely integrated back into the ecosystem.
Reliable Energy Supply: We configured the electrical system to provide 24-hour uninterrupted energy, powering all household loads consistently.
Efficiency Integration: We meticulously selected and integrated appliances and fixtures that meet our stringent efficiency objectives.
Material Resilience: We sourced materials resilient to tropical and subtropical climates, including resistance to hurricanes, moisture, humidity, and extreme temperatures.
Modular Design: We maintained modularity to allow for increased scalability and diverse configurations.
Smart Home Interface: We designed an intuitive interface that integrates smart home features, utility data, and smart controls into a user-friendly package.

Our Accomplishments

Despite the challenges, our dedication has led to significant milestones:

Design and Engineering: We have completed the design and engineering of the structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and material aspects of the home, with all drawings stamped and ready for manufacturing.
State Certification: We obtained product approval and certification from the state of Florida, a critical endorsement of our innovative approach.
Permitting: We submitted our permit application to the local jurisdiction, bringing us closer to breaking ground.
Modular Approval: Our modular design has been approved by the state, marking a significant achievement in our journey.
Custom Systems: We have designed, engineered, tested, and are currently storing our bespoke waste treatment and whole-home water systems.
Structural Frame: The structural frame of the home has been completed off-site.
Components: We have purchased and are storing major components, including appliances, plumbing fixtures, windows, doors, and utility systems.
Ecosystem Improvement: Our land preparation ideology has already led to noticeable improvements in the local ecosystem, proving that our design works in harmony with nature.

What’s Left to Do

To bring this project to completion, we need to:

Complete the local permitting process.
Finalize environmental permitting.
Complete site work, including the building of the home's foundation and access bridge to the site.
Purchase and install finishes.
Install systems and major components.
Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting.

The funds raised through this campaign will empower us to bring the BIOM prototype to life, covering all remaining steps—from finalizing engineering and transportation to on-site delivery, installation, and troubleshooting—right through to its completion at the final location. This isn’t just about finishing a prototype; it’s about turning a bold vision into reality and igniting the BIOM revolution.

The Project

Our Campaign aims to raise $750,000 to complete the construction of our flagship demo home on the Space Coast in Florida. This home will serve as a living laboratory for research and development, a proof of concept for future projects, and a stunning example of what BIOM homes can offer.
