Climate-Ecosystem-Biodiversity
EARTH offers a public health approach to provide mutual aid towards strengthened capacity for mental wellness and transformational resilience for the global climate-ecosystem-biodiversity (C-E-B) crisis. EARTH is actively working to advance local, regional, national, and international programs that serve C-E-B healing using a collectivist-minded approach to developing trauma-informed and healing-centered systems, including in relation to solastalgia (environmentally induced distress). EARTH is partnering with other organizations such as the Center for Trauma-Informed Policy and Practice, the International Transformational Resilience Coalition, and others, to optimize our impact. While valuable, individualized mental health and social services cannot fully address the epidemic of mental health and psychosocial problems, including as related to climate change associated distress. While the best pathway(s) to reducing psychological distance as a barrier to climate action are not yet fully clear, we know from experience that a collectivist-minded approach to down-regulating stress physiology and supporting the development of agency/empowerment assists with creating the space needed for people to advance values-based committed action. Channeling the underlying energies that underpin climate and sociopolitical distress into readiness and capacity to effectively respond reflects our overarching goal. EARTH delivers programming that synergizes Traditional Indigenous Knowledge with evidence-based, trauma informed, and healing-centered community health initiatives to forge new pathways for intergenerational healing and future resiliency.
