I am so proud to be the Board Chair of EducateUs and truly honored to get to support work that means so much to me. In my home city, the fight for comprehensive Sex Ed began before I even became a mother. Now with a 12 year old in middle school, because of support from so many, including Jaclyn, who then went on to bring those skills to this organization, my queer, neurodivergent, multiracial, Jewish daughter has had access to affirming, inclusive, medically accurate sexual health and social emotional learning since 3rd grade.
I see the difference it's made in her ability to not only define herself on her own terms and build healthy friendships and community, but also to resist the toxic uprising of diet culture and anti-feminist messages being slung at her daily.
Every kid deserves access to the kind of learning she is getting, and I'm not naive enough to think that hers is guaranteed. The fact is we will have to keep fighting for more access while also defending every inch we've gained in this current climate. And every single dollar counts!
