Laurie L. Dove on Journalism, Crafting Authentic Characters and the Debut Novel

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Laurie L. Dove shares her lifelong journey as a journalist and, most recently, traditionally published author.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Laurie L. Dove is the author of Mask of the Deer Woman, published by Penguin Random House, an Instant USA Today Bestseller that The New York Times called a “best new release” and The Seattle Times called “a powerful read for fans of dark, riveting stories rooted in justice and resilience.” The novel was selected as a No. 1 Amazon Hot New Release, a BookBub Best New Mystery, a Goodreads Book Recommended by Readers, and was featured as a recommended title in several industry publications, including Library Journal, Publishers Weekly and Shelf Awareness. In addition, The Washington Post called Mask of the Deer Woman an “audiobook to whisk you away.” Dove is an award-winning journalist whose bylines have appeared in Wichita as well as publications in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas and other major metropolitan areas. She has written for Delta Airlines, Animal Planet, HowStuffWorks, the Walt Disney Company and Discovery Communications, including televised series such as MythBusters and Hoarders, and has worked as a senior editor for six national magazines including European Homes & Gardens. Dove is a former mayor and council woman. She previously owned a publishing company and a creative agency. Dove earned a graduate degree from Harvard University in Creative Writing and Literature in 2022 and is now an occasional professor who writes fiction full-time.
