At the Colorado New Play Festival, we believe stories have the power to connect us, spark conversations, and inspire change. Each year, we welcome amazing playwrights and theater artists to Steamboat Springs to help them shape and refine bold new plays. With the support of professional actors, directors, and dramaturgs, these stories come to life, ready for stages across the country.

And guess what? It works! Over 70% of the plays we’ve developed have gone on to full productions in Regional Theatres and even on Broadway. These stories are fresh, exciting, and reflect the many ways we experience the world.

We’re also passionate about sparking creativity and connection in our community and beyond. Through our New American Voices program, we partner with the International Rescue Committee to offer writing therapy retreats for refugees, creating a safe space where participants can share their powerful and deeply personal stories. Additionally our Youth Playwriting Slam, gives local children the opportunity to write their own stories and see them performed by professional actors through our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Colorado. For these students, watching their ideas come to life is unforgettable, building confidence and creativity that lasts a lifetime.
