When many people hear the name Emergency Support
Shelter, there is a common misconception that we are only a shelter and that we only serve women. Once upon a time, we were known as the battered women’s shelter. But times have changed and so has our agency.

Today, ESS serves all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes. We support individuals of every age, gender, and background. If you are human, you deserve safety, dignity, and support.

In 2024 alone, we served 1,200 individuals, including 201 clients experiencing homelessness and 926 individuals living below the HUD poverty line. We provided nearly 4,000 bed nights, with 2,277 adult bed nights and 1,876 child bed nights. Our average shelter stay was 39 nights, giving families time to stabilize and rebuild.

Beyond shelter, we assisted with 73 protection orders and participated in over 900 outreach events, connecting survivors to resources and raising awareness throughout our community.

We are far more than a building. We are advocacy. We are prevention. We are safety planning. We are hope.

And we cannot do this work alone. Getting involved with ESS means standing with survivors when they need it most. Whether through volunteering, partnership, advocacy, or financial support, your involvement directly impacts lives.
