The Center for Youth Ministry Training EQUIPS youth ministers and communities of faith to develop effective ministries SO youth may know the love and grace of Jesus Christ.
Joseph is a second-year graduate resident, and his story is a perfect example of how powerful it is to show up for youth in tangible ways.
He had a high school student who was struggling to feel included in youth group. She did not know if she wanted to be there, and she had big questions about her faith. “What if Jesus isn’t real?,” she asked. Joseph did not want this to be something that further isolated her from experiencing the love of Christ. What a brave question to ask, after all, when you’re feeling disconnected and uncertain.
Joseph and his wife started going to this student’s volleyball games. They were consistently showing up to support her, in her space. They would hang out after the games until she was done to chat about school or life or whatever came up. Their consistent presence, in her life and at her games, was transformational for her relationship with the church. The care they showed her helped her to feel accepted, and this is what inspired her to participate more actively in church.
Recently, when she saw someone sitting by themselves during worship, she invited them to sit with her — now that she felt welcome, she could create that space for others.
Joseph and 54 other graduate residents are responding to the needs of young people so they can experience transformational love and grace.
Think about what that first spark was in your faith. Will you consider making a gift this season so more youth can hear the good news?
Our goal is to raise $30,000 by December 31st. When we reach our goal, we will start 2023 equipping those God has called to serve young people!
