Have you ever gone grocery shopping and had a list of needed items, but had to put the milk back because you needed to buy tampons too? This is the situation people in poverty are often faced with. Both are a necessity.

People that struggle to afford menstrual products each month have hard decisions to make. There’s so much shame around being lower income that it often leads to people suffering in silence because no one wants to talk about how they can't afford to buy tampons. Most think it's just homeless people who go through this but it's so much more. It's your neighbor, your friend, your sister who are struggling.

Having to put back the tampons that you need because you need to buy milk for your family means people tend to use their tampons/products longer than they should. Using menstrual products longer than recommended can lead to rashes or reactions, painful cramps, and even TSS (toxic shock syndrome) which can be life threatening.

Having access to period products helps save lives and having access to reusable period products means that they won't have to worry about finding money next month to buy more pads or tampons. Reusables never run out, just wash and reuse so they’re a long-term solution to period poverty.
