ORIGIN OF THE CAMPAIGN

Every June, United Methodists from across the Virginia Conference gather for our Annual Conference to the work of the church in Virginia (this year, Kingstowne will be represented at the VAUMC Annual Conference by Pastor Michelle Matthews and lay delegate Christian Burnette), and every year during the opening worship service of thousands of United Methodist a missional offering is collected.

This year, the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church has selected a cause that is quite extraordinary to support as its Annual Conference offering June 19-22. They have set the goal of relieving $39,000,000 in medical debt, currently burdening the most economically vulnerable across the state of Virginia, through the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt that helps to relieve medical debt at a 1:10 ratio.

For every $1 donated, $10 of medical debt is erased through Undue Medical Debt. For this reason, the VAUMC Conference has set the goal of raising $390,000 in Annual Conference offering this year in an effort to erase all VA medical debt.

KINGSTOWNE'S GOAL

What a courageous, creative, and collaborative goal that the Kingstowne Communion would love to collaborate to help meet! Collaborating with hundreds of other churches and individuals across the VA Conference, Kingstowne has set our goal at $3,900, including a dollar-for-dollar match from our church's general budget until we get to $3,900 (which is 1/100th of the total Annual Conference goal) and a serious contribution to the campaign.
