The Greenwich Old Timers were very saddened to learn of the passing of Erf Porter, who was a past President of our organization. Erf contributed so much to our community with his volunteer efforts and for many years was a key member of the Old Timers, helping to put together the program book and making sure it was filled with ads to help raise money that would in turn be donated to student athletes in town.

Erf was devoted to his family, his friends, his church, his community, and his country. Greenwich knows him for his contributions to the Boy Scouts, Greenwich Old Timers, American Legion Boys & Girls State Commission, Eastern Greenwich Civic Center Committee, and Greenwich Choral Society. He coached youth football, basketball and baseball and founded the Gateway Youth Football League (GYFL). He was an active member of the Retired Men's Association, the Melody Men, Sound Beach Volunteer Band, and St. Clement Church choir. He was involved in the Republican Town Committee and served for many years on the Greenwich RTM for Districts 6 and 12.

Since 1960, The Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association, founded by Jim and Joe Branca, has provided significant and critical financial support allowing Greenwich youth to participate in athletic programs as well as “needs-based only” academic scholarships. Our guiding belief is that participation in athletics teaches our children sportsmanship, discipline, and health. Our scholarships further their education and future success in society. The Old Timers have awarded college scholarships to 152 worthy young student-athletes from its inception through today.

At our Annual Awards Dinner, we have honored 235 local members of our community for their achievements, and 151 national sports luminaries. We have established a longstanding tradition of volunteering and giving back to the community. The Old Timers have exceeded $1,400,000 in total contributions in support of youth athletic programs and student-athletes.
