Your donations will help us with new and ongoing projects.
Education and Outreach: with citizens of Virginia's Tribal Nations, MVA is developing community education and K-12 classroom materials on the Native Americans of the Shenandoah Valley.
Doing Digs: with trained volunteers and partner organizations we design and undertake careful scientific excavations of archaeological sites. But unearthing finds is only the beginning.
Serious Science: MVA operates an archaeological laboratory in Mount Crawford for the analysis and curation of local artifacts from digs. Most recently MVA volunteers analyzed over 100 boxes of pottery from local historic kilns.
Solving mysteries: with churches, families, landowners, and cemeteries, we use various technologies and methods to locate and map unmarked graves and other features.
Uncovering community history: we are working with the citizens of Mount Crawford to document their stories and celebrate their Bicentennial and have ongoing projects with African American communities in Harrisonburg and the Valley.
People have Iived here for millennia. We're just getting started.
If you love the past, please help us give it a future.
