Hello World Class Academy Community,

With great excitement, the Kayak Academy would like to announce our Spring fundraising event!

We would like to introduce this fundraiser and open the conversation about why we're fundraising and its importance to our Academy. We believe that World Class Academy offers an incredibly unique experience to our high school students. Through attending World Class Academy, students have an opportunity to not only kayak around the world while completing their high school education, but an opportunity to learn about themselves, others, and the world around us through cultural and interpersonal experiences in the communities the academy visits. As an academy, we appreciate being able to offer this experience to as many students as we can. We want everyone interested to have the opportunity to attend.

How do we create these opportunities? How do we help everyone attend? We create these opportunities through scholarships. We love being able to support our students in this way. Therefore, we want to grow our scholarship funds to support more students, current and future.

That's the foundation we are standing on in reaching out to our community of parents, families, friends, alumni, and more to help us. Help us support current and future students through our fundraiser, creating scholarships so more students have the opportunity to attend TCA, a life-changing and rewarding high school experience.

So without further ado and with a drumroll, please....

On Saturday, February 17th, within the beautiful Futaleufu Valley, the Kayak Academy - individually and as a team - will complete as many river miles as possible on the pristine waters of the Futaleufu River in a single day.

How is this a fundraiser you might ask?

We are encouraging alumni, parents, families, friends and community members to financially support this challenge in 1 of 3 ways.

Pledge an amount per river mile a person completes. Ex. I pledge $1 for every river mile completed by Scout Finch.
Pledge an amount per river mile the whole team completes collectively. Ex. I pledge $0.25 for every river mile completed collectively by the team.
Donate a set amount to support the challenge. Ex. I pledge $25 in support of the Kayak Academy's Distance for Donations challenge.

For context on distances, the infamous Bridge to Bridge section of the Futaleufu is 5 miles. A $1 per mile pledge to an individual who completes 4 bridge to bridge laps would result in a $20 donation. As a registered non-profit educational organization, all donations made to WCA are Tax deductible.

Students will use an individual pledge sheet to keep track of potential donations, and once the challenge is complete, we will follow up with distances covered and the resulting donation.

We are excited to share this fundraiser. It is a great opportunity for students and staff to challenge themselves, build teams, have fun, and raise funds for our scholarship program.
