Story
The HURT | The CONFUSION | The ANXIETY
At some point in our lives, we have have or will be impacted by divorce, domestic violence, or other form of family transition or trauma. For some of us, it's watching a friend or family member take abuse...either emotionally or physically. For others, it's watching a once perfect family crumble - emotionally, financially and socially - from the pain or circumstances arising from separation. We know the tremendous impact family crisis has on individuals - especially children. And, we want to help.
What will you do???
We, as a foundation, are here to help you do your part in preserving the goodness of lives free of fear, free of abuse and full of opportunities.
Since 2016, the ACFLS Charitable Foundation has been providing much needed support to the organizations that provide resources to family law litigants and other programs that serve families in crisis and transition. We have done this by way of grants, funded by supporters like you. Supporters who believe in the value of giving whatever they can to make somebody's else's life better, safer and to give them the hope of a better future. To date, these grants have amounted to over $100,000, helping agencies and non-profits throughout the State of California, protect and support some of the most impactful work being done.
We have funded organizations such as:
- Levitt Quinn
- Harriet Buhai
- Harmony At Home
- Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice
- LACBA Domestic Violence Legal Services
- Helping Hands Center
- Angel Flight West
PLUS MANY MORE OVER THE YEARS....
But, the foundation is not only about grants and monetary support of our community partners. In 2022, the ACFLS Charitable Foundation created the Soaring For Safety Program in collaboration with Angel Flight West, a SoCal based organization that, by use of General Aviation, helps lower the barriers that prevent access to travel in cases of domestic violence/abuse. The program is designed to educate attorneys, mediators and other family law professionals, how to tap into this valuable service and ensure that victims are no longer in harms way...no matter what their financial status is. This collaboration is the first of it's kind in California and is designed to be expanded upon as the needs dictate.
Program details can be found at: Soaring For Safety
Hon. Thomas Trent Lewis (Ret.) is among our foundations most ardent supporters. An ACFLS member and AAML fellow Judge Lewis is known throughout the state for his family law expertise and passion for helping others in times of need.
In 2014, Judge Lewis suggested that ACFLS should be thinking about a larger legacy, and doing something to positively impact not just our own members, but all those who come in contact with California family courts. He pledged his own money to the cause, and we took up the challenge.
Watch as Hon. Thomas Trent Lewis (Ret.) discusses the importance of the ACFLS Charitable Foundation with past president Joseph Bell
