Who is The Farmily?

At GrowTorah, we lovingly refer to our friends and supporters as The Farmily.

The Farmily has provided a source of strength for us as we have grown the organization from the seed of an idea, to a flourishing venture leading the field of Experiential and Environmental Torah education.

More importantly, The Farmily has multiplied our joy by sharing their enthusiasm for GrowTorah with their loved ones and digging into the work right alongside us. That work is literal and figurative: GrowTorah aims to cultivate a more passionate, compassionate and sustainable future driven by Torah values.

GrowTorah invites you to gather with us as we joyfully renew our relationship with Hashem, the earth, and one another…

Let’s dig deeper, 2022 Quarter 1 (January - March):

Shorashim and Anafim, our school partner programs, use the garden as an experiential classroom to teach students Torah related to and rooted in gardening activities. Every session in our gardens involves students encountering the natural world with awe, wonder, and curiosity. We offer a garden-based lesson for every parsha, every Jewish holiday, and for a broad range of Torah values. The Shorashim program includes a GrowTorah Garden Educator visiting each school weekly during the growing season to teach the lessons. The Anafim program is led by a teacher in each school, trained and coached by the GrowTorah team remotely. We pause our garden lessons during the winter and started returning on March 1.

Keep Digging, 2022 Quarter 2 (April - June):

We enjoyed a strong spring of growth and inspiration partnering with 18 schools across 8 states in our Shorashim and Anafim garden programs. This year we added a special shmita-themed garden bed at most of our gardens to help students feel and understand what farmers in Israel experience when observing the year’s unique mitzvah.

Additionally, we ran Shmita-themed workshops at 8 institutions for 1,211 participants! On June 1, we launched our Inchwormship, where college students intern with us, helping us on various internal projects, in our gardens, and beyond. The numbers below reflect but a snapshot of the work that we do.

Turning a New leaf in Quarter 3 (July - September):

We enjoyed a beautiful Summer and early Fall in Quarter 3. We built 5 new gardens for Shorashim partners, we worked with 2 summer camps reaching over 1,250 campers, we delved deep into curriculum work with our college interns, and we doubled our camp size with 118 campers over 2 weeks at Camp GrowTorah.
