Building Skills. Growing Food. Creating Opportunity. Strengthening Communities.

What began with a desire to help meet practical needs in Nigeria has grown into something much larger.

Upset The World Foundation is working alongside local leaders, engineers, farmers, educators and community members to build systems that help people learn, produce, work, create and eventually open doors for others.

Our work in Africa now reaches across agriculture, aquaculture, vocational training, food security, digital connectivity, clean water, practical innovation and community infrastructure.

These may look like separate projects from the outside.

To us, they are connected.

A farmer needs more than seed if there is no equipment to increase production. A young person needs more than training if there is nowhere to practice a skill. A community can benefit from internet access, but that access becomes even more powerful when people can use it for education, business and opportunity. And providing food matters deeply—but so does helping communities strengthen their ability to grow, raise and process food themselves.

That is why our goal is not simply to arrive, give something away and leave.

We want to help build capacity that remains.

The Work Is Already Underway

This is no longer only a vision for what we hope to do.

In Abuja, UTWF has opened a vocational and applied-skills facility where students are learning alongside experienced Nigerian engineers and fabricators.

They are learning by doing.

Students are gaining hands-on experience in welding, fabrication, engineering, equipment production, machine building and workplace safety while participating in actual projects and learning to use the tools and equipment of the trade.

Our hope is not for a student to remain a student forever.

We want the person learning today to become the fabricator, entrepreneur, employer or teacher of tomorrow.

And we are already hearing that vision expressed by the people doing the work themselves.

Growing Food—and the Systems Around It

Food security is another major part of our work.

UTWF has funded active aquaculture operations, including the restoration of fish ponds, fish stock, piping, fencing and feed. We have supported rice farming and the cultivation of additional crops while also investing in locally fabricated equipment that can strengthen food production.

Our team has also developed local feed-production capability, helping move the work toward a model in which more of what is needed can eventually be produced locally rather than continually purchased from outside sources.

Because the goal isn't simply to provide a meal.

It is to help strengthen the ability to grow food, raise it, process it and keep producing it.

See some of the work underway—from the land we're cultivating to the systems we're building around food production.

Skills That Can Become Livelihoods

Vocational training is one of the most important parts of what we are building.

The young people entering our training environment aren't being asked simply to sit in a classroom and listen. They work beside people who know the craft.

They learn how equipment works.
They learn how to fabricate.
They learn workplace safety.
They learn how something moves from an idea to an actual product.

And eventually, we want them to understand something even greater:

A skill can become a livelihood. A livelihood can support a family. A business can employ other people. And someone who was once taught can become the person who teaches next.

That is how opportunity begins to multiply.

Digital Access & Digital Wells

Opportunity today also requires access to information and technology.

Through our Digital Wells initiative, UTWF is working to expand digital connectivity and access to educational resources in communities where those resources may be limited.

Our vision extends beyond simply providing an internet connection. Digital access can create pathways to education, digital literacy, communication, employment resources, entrepreneurship and connection to a much larger world of information and opportunity.

Digital Wells also has its own dedicated giving campaign for donors who specifically want to support that work.

Clean Water & Community Infrastructure

Sometimes the greatest opportunities for impact begin with very practical questions:

What does this community actually need?

That can mean access to clean water. Sanitation. Community facilities. Equipment. Technology. Repairs. Infrastructure that allows an organization serving others to function better.

As relationships grow and needs are identified, UTWF evaluates opportunities where our resources, partnerships and local expertise can help create meaningful and sustainable improvement.

We don't want to build simply for the sake of saying something was built.

We want what we help create to be useful, responsible and capable of serving people long after the project is completed.

One Initiative. Many Connected Pieces.

Your gift to UTWF Africa Initiatives can help support:

Agriculture, Aquaculture & Food Security
Seeds, crops, fish production, feed production and systems that strengthen local food security.

Vocational & Applied-Skills Training
Hands-on training in fabrication, welding, engineering, equipment production, workplace safety and practical trades.

Farming Equipment & Infrastructure
Tools, locally fabricated equipment and infrastructure that can increase productivity and strengthen local production.

Digital Wells & Connectivity
Digital access, educational resources and technology that connect people to information and opportunity.

Clean Water & Community Infrastructure
Practical projects that strengthen the places where people live, work, learn and serve.

Help Us Build What Comes Next

There is still much more to do.

More students can be trained.
More food can be produced.
More equipment can be built.
More communities can gain access to technology.
More infrastructure can be strengthened.

But the measure of this work will never simply be how many projects UTWF completes.

The greater measure will be what people are able to do because an opportunity was placed in their hands.

A student who becomes skilled.

A farmer who can produce more.

A young person who discovers that they can build something.

A community with greater access to food, water, technology and opportunity.

And eventually, someone who received an opportunity turning around and creating one for somebody else.

That is the Africa we are investing in.

Your gift to Africa Initiatives gives UTWF the flexibility to direct resources across this growing work where they can make the greatest responsible impact.

Help us build skills, strengthen communities and create opportunity that can continue multiplying long after the first gift is made.

Our Faith Is Part of Why We Serve

Our Christian faith shapes the heart behind this work and our belief in the dignity, value and potential of every person we serve.

For us, feeding people, caring for communities, teaching skills, creating opportunity and sharing our faith are not disconnected ideas.

They are expressions of the same calling:

to love people well, serve them practically and help leave something stronger behind.

“If you love Me, feed My sheep.” — John 21:17
