Forsyth Farmers' Market is #MoreThanAMarket!

Forsyth Farmers’ Market’s mission from the start has been to serve local farmers and make wholesome, locally grown food available to everyone. Now in our 11th year, we’re making huge strides on both of these fronts and ask you to invest in the continuation of this work

The three main avenues to fulfill our mission are education, Farm Truck 912, and the Saturday market. Last year, more than 2,500 of your neighbors of all ages participated in education programs such as classes, workshops, and demonstrations designed to inspire healthy eating, cultural connections, and demand for local products. Our most celebrated education program, A Taste of African Heritage, is a free, six-week cooking class that connects participants to traditional African food from before the diaspora.

Farm Truck 912, our mobile farmers’ market, continues to serve the needs of those living in low-income, low-food access neighborhoods (food deserts). More than 20% of people in Chatham County are food insecure, meaning they live below the poverty line, reside more than a half mile from a grocery store, and do not have guaranteed access to transportation. Farm Truck 912 reduces food insecurity by bringing food into neighborhoods and by doubling SNAP (formerly food stamps) dollars. This year the truck bought $30,000 in products from local growers, served over 3,000 customers, and provided more than $8,000 worth of produce to SNAP customers.

The Saturday market has grown from its humble beginning of eight vendors to now serving 45 local, small businesses, 30 of which are farms. The market is thriving with sales up 8% over last year. Our participation in the Georgia Fresh for Less program increases the amount of money that farmers receive and increases the buying power of low-income community members by doubling those valuable SNAP dollars. In 2018, Forsyth Farmers’ Market was the #1 market in the state of Georgia for SNAP shoppers. We’re very proud to be making wholesome, local food more accessible and we hope you’re proud of us too.
