North Lake County, a region brimming with potential, faces a silent crisis: it's a book desert. This means that access to books, the gateways to knowledge and imagination, is scarce. Children grow up with limited opportunities to explore the world through stories, to develop their vocabulary, and to cultivate a lifelong love of learning.

Recognizing this urgent need, Books Brushes & Bands for Education (BBB4E) is on a mission to change the narrative with its Book Brigade program. Our goal is to raise $11,000 to construct 20 Little Free Libraries across North Lake County (Hammond, Whiting, East Chicago, Gary, Merrillville, and Lake Station). These charming, miniature book-sharing boxes will become oases of literacy, popping up in neighborhoods, parks, and community centers.
