💚 Our Story

My name is Felix Odumo Akicho from Kakayando Village in Homa Bay County, Kenya.

I grew up in a humble farming family of eight children. My late mother, who passed away from cancer, and my father, a blacksmith and farmer, taught me the values of hard work, generosity, and caring for the community.

Life was not easy — droughts, long walks for water, and school fee struggles shaped my desire to help my community find lasting solutions through food, education, and compassion.

Today, I run Kakayando Organic Farm, where we grow food, teach permaculture, and support vulnerable families including widows, orphans, and the elderly.

🌱 How It Began

Years ago, a volunteer named Nicholas from Germany saw me carrying manure and said, “That’s already permaculture — caring for the Earth and people together.” Those words changed my life.

I later completed my Permaculture Design Course (PDC) at the Assalam Foundation in Zanzibar. The permaculture ethics — Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share — inspired me to teach others so the whole community can grow together.

🌾 What We Do

Our 1-hectare farm is a living classroom. Together with my wife Peggy, our two biological children, and three adopted children, we farm, teach, and support our neighbors.

At Kakayando Organic Farm we focus on:

🌿 Permaculture training for youth and women

🍅 Organic vegetable and fruit growing

🐓 Poultry (70 chickens) and livestock (8 cattle)

🌳 Tree planting with our rule: "Cut One, Plant Two"

💧 Rainwater collection and drought resilience

💚 Sharing food and seeds with widows, orphans, and the elderly
