Follow Our LEAD 🌻

One state took the lead. Together, we can help the nation follow.

The LEAD Act: Laila’s Elopement Awareness & Dissemination Act grew from lived experience and a belief that families should be able to count on communities that are prepared when a loved one with autism, an intellectual or developmental disability, dementia, or another cognitive disability elopes or wanders.

Maryland took action. Now we want to help other states do the same.

What is Follow Our LEAD?

Follow Our LEAD is a national movement powered by Laila’s Gift® to help families, advocates, organizations, and changemakers bring the principles of the LEAD Act to their own communities.

Families shouldn't have to start from scratch.

Laila’s Gift will help provide the roadmap, resources, connections, advocacy guidance, and support communities need to move from:

Awareness → Advocacy → Legislation → Implementation

We’ll help connect the village — families, disability organizations, first responders, educators, community leaders, policymakers, and advocates — so they can work together toward meaningful change.

What does your gift make possible?

Your donation helps Laila’s Gift:

Create Follow Our LEAD advocacy and educational toolkits
Support families and advocates navigating state and local legislation
Build statewide coalitions of families, organizations, first responders, and community leaders
Elevate family stories and lived experiences to help inspire change
Provide education around elopement preparedness, response, and community safety
Support outreach, legislative meetings, community engagement, and implementation efforts
Build a national network so communities can learn from one another instead of starting alone

Your gift gives another community something every family deserves: a roadmap, a village, and support to turn lived experience into lasting change.

Now, imagine families across the country no longer asking, "Where do we even start?"

Instead, they have a roadmap.
They have resources.
They have a village.
And they have Laila's Gift standing beside them.

Maryland took the lead. Now let's help the nation follow.
