Mission:

To revitalize and transform an underutilized greenhouse into a sustainable agricultural hub that empowers the Arhuaco community by fostering local food sovereignty, regenerating land, and creating economic opportunities.

This is a collaborative initiative between the Arhuaco community and Sun Nation, committed to sustainable agriculture and ecological preservation. Originally constructed in 2014, the greenhouse was previously leased to an extractive enterprise that did not prioritize the land or people. In response, the community is reclaiming the space to cultivate tomatoes and medicinal plants with an emphasis on traditional practices, ecological harmony, and minimal startup costs.

The project will leverage existing resources, including the community’s expertise, local materials, and the infrastructure already in place. It will proceed through incremental improvements, starting with functional zones in the greenhouse and working toward full utilization of the space. A pilot cycle will test growth conditions, allowing the team to refine practices before scaling up to supply local markets and enhance food security.

We are seeking to secure seeds for the first phase! Thanks to "Sweet Corn Organic Nursery" They have agreed to match seed packs for however many we are able to purchase! Our goal is to plant 1,000 tomato plants. Each pack of seed has 20 individual seeds and is sold for $4.98. This makes a total of $125 + shipping and handling needed for just the seeds. The rest of the funding will be used for transportation and other supplies necessary to complete the work!

Meet Bunkutu! The Arhuaco leader and authority of the community called Businka! This is where the Green House is located and he is in charge of managing the production and Arhuaco youth that will be tending to the project throughout the whole process!
