Meet Dacelo, Our Laughing Kookaburra
(Pronounced: Duh-sell-oh)
Dacelo is a Laughing Kookaburra, the largest member of the Kingfisher family, known for their iconic call that sounds like hearty, manic laughter. This call earned them the nickname “Bushman’s Clock” for their role in signaling dawn and dusk in the Australian outback.
Kookaburras can live up to 20 years in captivity, and Dacelo has a special story. He joined Forever Wild after his former caretaker, a dedicated wildlife educator, could no longer care for him due to health issues. We’re proud to give Dacelo a loving home where he continues to inspire and delight visitors with his unique sounds and playful spirit.
Sponsoring Dacelo helps provide the specialized care he needs, including his diet of small prey and enrichment activities to keep his keen mind active. Thank you for helping us support this amazing bird!
