Fundación Amarun Pakcha was established to tackle an urgent mission: to protect and restore the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest while creating sustainable opportunities for the Indigenous Kichwa community of Wawa Sumaco. This region is a biodiversity hotspot, home to endangered species, ancient cultural heritage, and one of the most ecologically significant rainforests in the world.

Our vision is to establish a thriving ecological corridor that links the forests of Wawa Sumaco to the Sumaco Galeras National Park, creating a lifeline for wildlife and protecting critical habitats from deforestation and agricultural expansion. Currently, much of this land is under threat as families face pressure to convert forested areas into farmland. To counter this, we are working to acquire and conserve parcels of primary forest while empowering local families with sustainable alternatives like growing coffee, guayusa, and cacao.

While we have made significant progress—purchasing key parcels of land and building strong partnerships within the community—the corridor is still a dream in progress. Every donation helps us move closer to making it a reality by securing more land, protecting wildlife, and supporting sustainable livelihoods for local families.

Through ecotourism initiatives like birdwatching tours, hikes to waterfalls, and visits to ancient pre-Inca petroglyphs, we are creating sustainable sources of income that reduce dependency on harmful land-use practices. These efforts preserve the forest and celebrate its natural and cultural heritage, ensuring that both thrive together.
