His courage changed history. In 1929, Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Reese was born and raised in Selma, AL. With faith and fortitude, he stood strong during the Civil Rights Movement and helped lead the fight for voting rights.

Our five-year campaign will raise $1.5 million to preserve and pass on the life, legacy and lessons of Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Reese for generations to come.

Ensuring His Legacy Lives On
Equip schools with copies of books about Rev. Dr. F. D. Reese and provide learning sessions to teach students about his life and leadership.

Education + Experiential Learning
Fund scholarships, enrichment programs and hands-on experiences that allow students to discover Selma – or Selma to discover them through travel exhibit collections, digitization of artifacts and virtual programming. 
Leadership Development
Develop well-rounded faith-based leaders by providing mentorship, civic education and youth leadership training that emulates Rev. Dr. F. D. Reese.

Historic Preservation
Help preserve Rev. Dr. Reese’s legacy by archiving historical artifacts, sharing his story, hosting tours and maintaining his historical home.
