🌿 About the Friends of Caddo Mounds 🌿

The Friends of Caddo Mounds is a nonprofit organization dedicated to:

✨ Raising public awareness of the historic and natural resources of Caddo Mounds State Historic Site

✨ Honoring and sharing the memory, history, and living traditions of the Caddo people

✨ Supporting the site where the very first stories of what we now call Texas began

🀝 We work hand-in-hand with Caddo Nation citizens, educators, artists, and the Texas Historical Commission to support:

Each year, we help host Caddo Culture Day, where members of the Caddo Nation return to their ancestral homelands to share:

🌾 In 2014, the Friends began raising funds to build a traditional Caddo grass house, led by Caddo elder Phil Cross. Completed in 2016, the house became a powerful teaching space and symbol of cultural survival.

πŸŒͺ️ Though both the grass house and museum were destroyed in the 2019 tornado, they were rebuilt in 2022 under Caddo leadership β€” renewing presence, memory, and visibility at the site.

🌱 Today, we continue to support cultural revitalization, land restoration, and educational outreach at Caddo Mounds through:

✨ Our newest campaign, Braiding the Past into the Future, invites supporters to help us grow this work β€” ensuring that the first chapter of Texas history, and those who lived it, are never forgottenΒ

Braiding the Past with the Future

Before Texas was Texas, the Caddo people lived here β€” engineers, artists, builders, and ceremonial caretakers.
They are theΒ Original Texans, and the story of this land begins with them.

This campaign sponsored by the Friends of Caddo Mounds non-profit supports theΒ revival of Caddo art, story, and land practicesΒ β€”Β

Ancient knowledge blending with modern tools to teach us how to live in balance again.
