Where would any of us be without the teachers who have inspired and guided us on our journeys? At Nusantara Arts, Indonesian teaching artists and performers transform lives through vibrant connections to living culture. This January, Nusantara Arts is fulfilling a community dream, bringing a master Javanese gamelan musician from overseas to teach and perform. Your help is needed by December 31st to make this program a reality.
Heri Purwanto will be in Buffalo for five months(!), working with our inclusive community classes, world-class performance ensemble, and free refugee youth programs at Buffalo String Works—creating ripples that will resonate through Buffalo's entire arts community. In the past, teachers have only stayed for days at a time; it’s no exaggeration to say that Heri’s extended time here will transform Indonesian arts in Buffalo forever.
Through a partnership with Cornell University, we’ve secured initial arrangements to bring Heri from Central Java, but we still need funds to cover the main program expenses.
Your gift will provide:
• Fair compensation for his expertise for 5 months
• Housing, meals, and local transportation
• Winter essentials for Buffalo weather (including a winter coat and boots!!)
Your investment in this vision will shape Buffalo's cultural history, launching five transformative months of arts education for students from all backgrounds, from children discovering music for the first time to advanced musicians presenting world class concerts. Time is short to secure this program, your generosity today will transform how thousands in Western New York experience and celebrate Indonesian culture for years to come.
Will you help give Heri a warm welcome to our community with a gift before December 31st? He can’t wait to meet you in a class or at a show!
With love and gratitude,
