Peace For DC courageously remains steadfast in our belief that every person has the right to live free from fear of gun violence. Moreover, every person deserves an equitable opportunity to break free from the daily and generational barriers created by systems of oppression. Through our Peace Academy, HEAL DC, and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (CBI) programming, we are partnering directly with program participants, empowering them with personal/professional skills, healing resources, basic human necessities, community, and more. Peace For DC’s HEAL DC program delivers a trauma-informed continuum of care to 18- to 24-year-olds in Washington, DC, who face disproportionately high rates of gun violence. HEAL empowers these young men and their families to move beyond daily survival and toward long-term healing, stability, and economic mobility. By addressing trauma at its root, HEAL helps participants break free from cycles of violence and begin building futures filled with possibility.

One young man whose life has been transformed through HEAL is Kevin. When Kevin first joined the program, his outlook was bleak. His words reflected deep pain and anger—echoes of the trauma and adversity he had endured. But through consistent engagement, care, and encouragement, Kevin began to invest in his own growth. Slowly, his perspective shifted. Today, he is thriving. He speaks with confidence, sees a promising future, and carries himself with pride. When he walks into our office, he says he feels “like a boss”—ready to share his story so others can witness how far he’s come.
