HEALTH CARE

Health care is among the most basic of human needs. We sponsor Dr. Shemaghembe’s mobile medical clinic to bring healthcare to remote communities who otherwise would not have access, servicing 51 posts each month. We are also currently sponsoring one of the mobile clinic volunteers at finish medical school to expand our clinic in the future. We just gained a wonderful new addition to the team, Dr. Lekasio, who will soon bring our mobile medical clinic to communities in the Monduli area as well.

WOMEN'S MICROFINANCE

Women’s micro loan programs are one of the most powerful tools available in helping to provide financial stability in areas where banking is not available. This provides these underserved communities with economic stability, which is crucial in building resilience among rural communities, especially during times of political turmoil. By putting resources into the hands of the family caretakers, we ensure that family needs are met first (food, shelter, school fees, etc). Women who access these loans to invest in their small businesses become leaders within their communities, gaining respect in their villages and elevating the role of the woman.

EDUCATION

Education is an essential human right, and the key to success in every country. However, due to costs (junior high and senior high schools are not free in Tanzania), and an overall lack of resources, staying in school can be an arduous task for many Tanzanians. Maasai Partners’ Scholarship and Kindergarten projects seek to give Tanzanian children the best possible chance to succeed in achieving a solid education. We currently have students at every educational level from baby class all the way through PhD programs, sponsoring vocational programs where appropriate. We believe that education is the best way to bring about sustainable change.

BEEKEEPING

Our newest program, we send future beekeepers from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Ololosokwan to be trained by Northern Tanzania Beekeeping Company, whose trainers graduated from the Beekeeping Institute of Tabora, Tanzania. Once graduated and outfitted with all the necessary gear, our beekeepers travel back to their respective villages and attract bees to their new hives. Graduates are trained to keep both regular stinging bees as well as stingless bees, which produce a very different type of honey. We have trained 24 beekeepers so far, and working together and training others, they have formed the Highland Beekeeping Cooperative and produced 313 pounds of honey so far. Women have used honey income to meet some of their basic household needs and lessen their dependency on external support. We are very excited about the success of this new project!
