The Holland Gym was built in 1974 by a generous donation from Mr. & Mrs. W.A. Holland and J.P Riddle. For 50 years, the Holland gym has hosted basketball games, volleyball games, dodgeball games, camp relays, square dancing, animal encounters, jugglers, fits of strength, dances, sleepovers, gladiator games, and the famous camp HAKA.

In 1989, a new gym floor was laid over the original concrete to upgrade the surface. For the last 35 years, the “waffle” floor has served its purpose while contributing to many scrapes, floor burns, and waffle shaped markings. I’m sure many of you who are reading this have left some of your DNA on the floor.

Now in 2024, we are looking to transform The Holland Gym into a multipurpose building. This transformation will bring a climate controlled facility that will include the following upgrades:

- new flooring with lines for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball

- dorm space, bathrooms, and showers for guest lodging

- new basketball goals

- volleyball nets

- pickleball nets

- a stage and storage

This transformation from a gym to a multipurpose building will be a game changer for all the groups that visit or rent our campground. The estimated cost of the multipurpose building is close to $500,000.00. We need to raise or have a commitment of $250,000.00 or more by the end of October 2024 to begin construction in November. By starting in November, our new multipurpose building will be ready by the first of June 2025. Our fundraising is already off to a great start as $60,000 has been donated toward the new gym floor.

To continue our fundraising efforts we are asking all our faithful donors, churches, guest groups, friends, and businesses to prayerfully consider making a donation towards this transformation. We will begin selling squares of the old floor for $50 a square, and once construction begins we will mail the squares to those who contributed. In memory of Brenda Ennis: Brenda was a faithful supporter of Camp Dixie and she loved seeing the smiles of children and youth as they enjoyed their time at camp.

In memory of Dean Skinner: Dean was a former Executive Director of Camp Dixie and a college coach for most of his lifetime.

In honor of Coach Peters: Coach Peters has spent over 50 years serving the Lord as a coach, camp speaker, revival speaker and pastor.

Camp Dixie has always been a place where spiritual transformation takes place in the lives of young children, students, and adults. The transformation of our gym will have a huge impact as we continue to be a Kingdom Building Ministry.
