Small Business Heroes

The Animal Retreat Rescue and Rehabilitation is looking for sponsors for our EPIC Program. The Education Project for Inmates & Canines is a collaboration between the Idaho Department of Corrections and The Animal Retreat, formerly known as Meridian Canine Rescue. Surrendered or transferred dogs are matched with handlers at the Idaho State Correctional Center, where they undergo extensive positive reinforcement training to prepare them for successful adoption. EPIC handlers gain a sense of compassion and purpose, an education, and professional skills that all combine to greatly reduce the chances that participants will reoffend after being released. EPIC changes lives, not only for the inmates and canines who participate, but also for the prison staff, adopters, and members of the community as a whole.
