Medellin Summer 2025: Building Hope Through Art in Vereda Granizal

Since 2023, CBOB has been working hand-in-hand with Fundación Casa Huellas, Puesto de Salud Oasis de Paz, and Casa de Acción Comunal Oasis de Paz to transform the lives of children and youth in Vereda Granizal, Bello, Antioquia. Through educational workshops and access to healthcare, we are creating safe, empowering spaces where young people can learn, heal, and grow.

Vereda Granizal is home to around 30,000 people and is now the second-largest settlement of internally displaced persons in Colombia.¹ Nearly 90% of its residents are victims of the country’s long internal conflict, having arrived here after being forced

Thousands of children and adolescents now call Granizal home—many born into a reality shaped by displacement and limited resources. But the story of Granizal doesn’t end with loss. Today, the community is reclaiming its voice, rebuilding its identity, and envisioning a better future.

This summer of 2025, we are deepening our work through a new partnership with Casa de los Derechos, where our latest project will take place: a powerful, community-created mural that will tell the story of Granizal's journey—its struggles, resilience, and hope. This mural will serve as a living timeline and a tool for education, healing, and pride. It will help children and youth understand their roots and empower them to shape their future as the next generation of leaders.

This inspiring project will unfold in three key stages:

Part 1: Introduction: We will begin by introducing the children and youth to the beauty and impact of mural art while exploring the rich history of Vereda Granizal.
Part 2: Gathering Community Input (Memory): We will then facilitate community discussions and brainstorming sessions, capturing their unique perspectives and memories of their territory.
Part 3: Mural Execution: Finally, guided by local artists and fueled by community input, we will bring these stories to life on the walls of Granizal through the creation of four distinct murals during our Bound for Peace Service/Learning trip.
