Feed the Need is a prevocational training program for teens and young adults (ages 14-21) on the autism spectrum and similar needs.  Participants get the opportunity to work on vocational, social, daily living skills through different exciting programs.

Garden Program

The Garden program was the first Feed the Need offering more than eight years ago and continues to grow each year.  Participants learn the ins and outs of growing produce sustainably and organically, while also learning where our food comes from.  This is a great program for someone who is just starting out on their journey to employment, as the garden offers a wide range of general work skill building as well.  Since its beginning, the programs garden beds have fully rotted.  Partner with us to purchase durable materials (like concrete blocks) to rebuild 15 of our beds and sustain our garden for years to come.

Each $250 sponsorship supplies the blocks needed for one bed & the organic compost/ topsoil needed to nurture our plants.  Not only will the blocks increase the durability and longevity of our garden, but they will also act as an adaptive physical support for our participants. Our students will be able to tend to our crops more comfortably and effectively, which will allow for more opportunities of learning, growth, and skill acquisition. In acknowledgement of your generosity, durable signs will be posted in our garden located near 737 Buncombe St., Hendersonville, NC naming with a displayed donor recognition sign. We will also host a plant pick up day, where you will be invited to pick up produce grown in our garden as a special thank you.
